L'été au Château de La Hulpe A ne manquer sous aucun prétexte les 20 & 21 juin 2009, la seconde édition de « L’été au château de La Hulpe » Familiales et festives, ces journées entièrement gratuites regroupent différents espaces. Un salon consacré au énergies renouvelables, aux matériaux de construction économiseurs d’énergie, aux possibilités d’aide financière octroyées par les pouvoirs publics, aux véhicules verts et à tout ce qui touche de près ou de loin la préservation de notre environnement. Elles visent encore la promotion de notre patrimoine avec notamment l’ouverture exceptionnelle au public du château Solvay, une exposition remarquable sur l’aviation belge et Pierre de Caters, premier aviateur Belge. Signalons encore la présence deux avions du musée de l’armée de l’air, d’ULMs, de planeurs et d’une montgolfière ascensionnelle. Vous y trouverez aussi une exposition consacrée aux métiers d’art. Pour les plus jeunes : deux espaces jeux en bois, des ateliers créatifs et un espace cerfs-volants. Un village gourmand sera à votre disposition pour titiller vos papilles et parfaire vos connaissances de produits de bouche wallons mais aussi français. Enfin, la journée se clôturera sur scène avec les concerts gratuits de Louis Bertignac (ex-Téléphone), Suarez et Saints et par un feu d’artifice géant. There is still some works in the tube but progress are recorded everywhere. Nicolas is preparing the sortie of the fuselage of the Dragon Rapide. He is now working on the wing cabling the reunite the wings and the fuselage as soon as the fuselage will be out of the workshop. Vincent is the finishing the wings of the first Tipsy. The target is still to complete this aircraft of the autumn of this year. Marc, Robert and Henry (and others when they are there) are now working on the wings of the second Tipsy. The Fairey Battle documentation received from our friends from the Medway Society (thanks to Nicolas) is under printing. This a long and time consuming work as we speak about thousand of pages describing in detail the in deep restoration of the Battle of the RAF Museum. The Jonathan is now documented. The airframe was stored this Saturday. There is no plan currently to start the restoration but the file is ready including pictures, a budget and a basic schedule for a restoration. Old friends are back. Olivier is back with us. He will work on the Walter Mikron acquired thanks to the Museum for the second Tipsy. Eric found a solution to jack the Hawker Hurricane and the Fairey Battle. We lost a lot of time searching in the manuals of the aircraft but finally examining pictures we discovered the needed tool isavaillable at the Museum and pictures demonstrated us how to perform this task needed to preserve the tires. André Filée and Jean Robert completed the first phase of the educational display and put it in place. André look and need Volunteers for the educational duties. There is no special skills needed except passion for flight. If you are interested please contact us. The team is also planing to celebrate the first lunar landing in July. If you can help, we are welcome. As the Dragon will go out of the workshop there is will be a real ballet in the work aera in front of the workshop. This is the good occasion to clean the space and arrange the exhibits to permit to visitors to better see what('s the heel) we are doing. The operation started 3 month ago but significant changes will be seen in the coming weeks. The Museum started to install new aircraft enclosures on the first floor. The result is beautiful. This Saturday, the Fonds National Alfred Renard had his annual meeting. Some important progresses on the R-31 replica were recorded. The first wing is ready and the works on the fuselage is progressing well. This week we had also our regular meeting with the authorities of the Museum. The priorities were discussed and the right decisions taken. Last but not least, last year, the Brussels Air Museum fund received a huge collection of films from Mrs Delbaere. It was complicated and time consuming to find a way to convert these film to a digital media but the first conversion is now completed. The two first film are about a camp period of the 5th squadron from Nivelles in 1938 and another film about the Belgian air arm in 1940. More films are in the tube. Please do not forget the Museum is looking for volunteers for cleaning the aircraft, no skill is needed except passion. If you are interested please contact us. Please note next week (June 20th & 21st), it will an exhibition about Pierre de Caters in La Hulpe.
