Sabena Oldtimers Foundation contributions.

Hello World,

Our restorations activities are always on progress with Vincent and a new volunteer working on the Walter Mikron engine of the Tipsy. René is manufacturing the missing engine supports for the Tipsy. Other projects are also progressing. Marc and Marcel worked hard to better manage our budgets and we published our screening procedure and the Barms survival guide to better organize the activities in the workshop. Last week we visited Guy Englebert to assess the state of  the d’Otreppe glider. We added new pictures of the Jonathan  in our picture section.

This is maybe the time to remember the contribution of our friends of the Sabena Oldtimers Foundation. The first one to enter the Museum was the Junkers 52. The SOT started the restoration before another team from of AELR volunteers finished this epic restoration. You will find hereafter a webpage and pictures of this restoration. The Sabena Oldtimers Foundation peoples are now completing a second Lysander for the Museum. We received pictures you find in one of our picture album hereafter. In the near future, we will also publish pictures of the Tiger Moth restored and currently maintained by the Sabena Oldtimers Foundation.

The Museum published a Newsletter in French and Flemish. One of the last issues contains a nice article about the German Glider currently on display at Eben Emael. You will find link to these newsletters in our webupdates.

We are back with the publication of the Aircraft build in Belgium by Jean-Pierre Decocq with the Renard R-30. You will also find 2 links about the B-25.

The Video section contains a very nice clip about Mickey Artiges, the F-16 Demo pilot  from by Pro-Wing and others nice films about the Elkan. This aircraft used in Chile was the ex Belgian Air Force Mirage 5.

You are always welcome on the Saturday to visit our workshop.

Hoping to see you soon.

Thanks to Philippe, Louis and Pascal for information or links included in these news.

Lysanders at the Sabena Oldtimers workshop
Zaventem - Belgium -
March, 6 2009 by bamf.bamrs & Sabena Oldtimers Foundation
In March 2009, new pictures are added. The wings of the Lysander restored for the Royal Army Museum are nearing completion. It was a real challenge for the Oldtimers to complete 2 Lysanders. In 2003, when the foundation started the restorations some “experts” predicted it was impossible. Now, it was planned the second Lysander will be ready in July 2009. This is a magnificent achievement and a proof of the tenacity and know how of the Sabena Oldtimers Foundation

D'otreppe Glider Jonathan Livingston
Brussel Air Museum -
Mar 4, 2009  by bamf.bamrs
In March 2009, we visited the workshop of Guy Englebert where the Jonathan is stored. Guy planned to restore the glider but he cannot perform the task alone. The target of the visit was to check the state of wood structure as Guy as cleaned the old fabric. The airframe was found in good state with a few ribs broken during the transport but the Jonathan can now ferried back to the Museum. When back at home, our first task will to document the aircraft as no drawings nor documentation is known...     View Album Play slideshow

De Caters exhibition at the Museum

15.10.2008 - 28.02.2009

In the magical setting of the Royal Museum of the Army, the exhibition shows how many authors have drawn inspiration from history and military techniques.  In visiting the exhibition, the public will go through all the collections of the Museum.  Visitors will discover original and amusing showcases of items of the collections and how they are reflected in the comic strips.  The two dimensions of the comic strip are thus juxtaposed to the real world.
