Was it the big week ?
Everything started at full boast on the Sunday with 15th Wing Open door in Melsbroek at the occasion of the 60 th
anniversary of the unit.
We were present near the B-25 Mitchell of our friends from Netherland. It was a perfect time to speak about our common addiction : The Mitchell ... and to talk about future projects together. We had also a lot of visitors and interesting contacts (including the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Staff of Comopsair).
was excellent. Sorry very few pictures of the C-130 but we were not taking
pictures during their demonstrations, we were hypnotised by the shows.
Last but not least, the Westland Lysander OO-SOT of our colleagues of the Sabena oldtimers was displayed with her wings for the first time since her successfully restoration. Really a masterpiece. You can find hereafter a video showing the Lizzie travelling in Melsbroek.
The Lizzie had the honours of "Le Fana" and "Aeroplanes Monthly". These newspapers published pictures taken during the airport open door in June and sent by the Bamf. A good example of the excellent collaboration between the bamf and the oldtimers and thanks to our contacts in the international press, these newspapers and some other ones transmitted their congratulations to the SOT.
Some interesting links about Sabena are included in the current edition.
You can also find a new link about Buck Danny sent by Serge who continue to inform us about Comic strips. The comic strips page on www.bamf.be is now updated as well as the page about the drawings of André. In the coming weeks, there will be a massive upgrade of this page at
Jean-Luc Beghin wrote an article in Aviasport (September 2008) about "Dédé" Hauet. Note this issue is not yet displayed on Aviasport website.
And ! You will find in October the 2009 Sabena Nostalgia calendar. Each month is illustrated by aircraft flow by the company and pictures of air hostesses in the various uniforms of theses angels. The Calendar will be available at the shop of the Museum at the cost of 10 Euro.
A new book on Pierre de Caters is in the pipeline. 'Baron de Caters - Een leven vol beweging’ by Guy de Caters will officially be published on December 8th (a magnificent sinterklas gift) by the Heemkring De Drie Rozen. The book will contain around 120 pages in 21 x 29,7 cm format. This biography of the first Belgian aviator is written be a relative of Pierre de Caters and contains documents from the familly archives never published before. We would like to reinforce the B-25 restoration Team.
For this purpose, the bamf is currently contracting insurance for 12 restorers. The restoration activities have already started and will soon enter greater scale operations. Although we are looking for persons with technical knowledge in aircraft restoration, we want also give the opportunity to unexperienced volunteers to join the project on a benevolent basis.
If you are motivated to work on a WW2 aircraft, please contact Nicolas at firstname.lastname@example.org
